With the recent effects of ransomware attacks, such as CryptoLocker, and other spyware infections, T-Tech Solutions LLC has been reiterating the need for effective back-up solutions. Backing up data is crucial, especially in the event that something catastrophic happens to a device. Often times data backup and recovery are your only possible measures for retrieval of important information!
Data backups will keep-safe your files from corruption due to hardware failure. Even with today’s advanced technology, parts and components still fail. Most times, as with any catastrophe, these failures come unexpected and without a warning sign. If a hardware fails, the data is safe and secure and ready for retrieval onto a new hardware or device. This can reduce and eliminate down time and the pain-staking moment where your important information is gone.
When some of these newer malware and ransomware infections hit, data backups become your one and only solution. With the latest ransomware, such as CryptoLocker, your data becomes encrypted immediately and virtually useless from that point on.
Much like in the case of a virus, data backups are just as important as the process that you set for them. There are options for local backups and off-site backups. Both are highly effective, but only when implemented properly. If someone gave you an external hard drive and told you to simply start putting your files on there, here is why that is not necessarily the most effective solution:
- This device can be stolen or even lost (especially if you carry around with your laptop)
- This device can become corrupted or damaged.
- This device, if plugged into your machine as a “secondary hard drive” can become infected itself when an infection hits.
- For the most part, people are backing up or copying data to an external device as raw files, just as they are on your local hard drive. If these files can be easily accessed by people, they are even easier to access by infections.
If this post has scared you, then we have been effective. If it has not, then you must already have a solid solution in place and we are extremely happy to hear this!
There are a variety of options when choosing the right backup solution. Remember, backups are only as effective as the process that you have set for them. A user has to decide which solution is best for them and the best way to make that decision is speaking to the right experts. Whether that is T-Tech Solutions LLC or your trusted IT resource, ultimately, the safe-keeping of records and data is the more important focus here. With that said, we cannot put enough stress on the fact that the time to begin planning for backups is now. Not tomorrow, not next week, not next month. Today…
When your system gets hit with these infections and your files are lost, we DO NOT want to have the “we warned you” discussion. We would rather consult and advise our clients, and you, to make the smart decision today.
If you have any questions regarding backup solutions or need help deciding which solution is best, don’t hesitate to give T-Tech Solutions LLC a call! Please do not wait until it’s too late to start a backup solution for your important files!
